We can compare the two sides using algebra.

4b+7=8b-1

Using simple methods, we can isolate b on a single side.

1+7=8b-4b

8=4b

From this we learn b is 2. To find out the value of A on side MN and LO, we will plug in the value for b at all instances of B in this equation.

2a = 2b+1

2a = 2(2)+1

2a=4+1

2a=5
